MEMBER CATEGORIES

The initial category of membership awarded is dependent on academic qualifications and approved industry experience. There are four (4) categories of CIQS Membership:

• Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS/ÉCA) - An internationally recognized designation, which can only be used by qualified, certified members of the Institute.

• Construction Estimator Certified (CEC/ECC) - A nationally recognized designation, which can only be used by qualified, certified members of the Institute.

• Associate - A non-designated membership category for individuals who are working towards one of CIQS's designations, OR who are gainfully employed in, or associated with, the construction industry.  

• Student - An individual that is designated as a full-time student as evidenced by their academic institution.  The student membership is free for as long as an individual remains a full-time student.

APPLICATION PROCESS

To apply for CIQS membership, please complete the following steps of the online application to submit your application for assessment.  The non-refundable application fee is $250.00 plus tax, where applicable.
 

Step 1 - Review list of Supporting Documents

• Click here (French) to review the list of supporting documents that need to be submitted with the online application.

• Have all your supporting documents ready for upload (current resume, degrees/dipolmas/certificates, and transcript of records are mandatory). 

Step 2 - Complete the Online Application form and upload Supporting Documents

The application form includes the following sections:

• Profile Information - Create your CIQS account.  If you already started an account, login in from the profile information page to continue the appliatioln with your exisiting account.
• Professional Experience - Tell us about your work experience and upload your supporting documents
• Academic Experience - Provide a summary of your academic experience and upload your supporting documents
• Professional Qualification - List your professional qualifidations that may be relevant to your application, such as GSC, PMP, MRICS, etc., if any

Step 3 - Pay the Non-refundable Application Fee

• Pay the non-refundable application fee of $250.00 plus tax, where applicable, to submit your application.

Note: 

• At minimum, you will be accepted as an Associate member.
• Submitted applications will be assessed by the CIQS Membership Assessor to determine an applicants membership category, and the TPE pathway to CEC/PQS certification.
• The assessment process will ONLY begin once all required supporting documents have been received and the non-refundable fee has been paid. 
• The assessment process takes approximately 3 - 4 weeks to complete.
• A letter outlining next steps will be issued via email.
• The non-refundable application fee does not cover the annual membership fee. 
• Payment of the annual membership fee is required to activate the membership (an activation link will be provided with the assessment letter).
• Applications must be submitted through the online application form (applications are not accepted via email or regular mail).

Full-time Students

If you are a full-time student enrolled in a CIQS approved full time program of study you are eligible to apply for CIQS Student Membership. The student membership is free for as long as an individual remains a full-time student as described above. To apply for CIQS student membership, please complete the following steps of the online appliation to submit your application. 

Step 1 - Review list of Supporting Documents

• Have your proof of enrollment as a full-time student ready to upload.  Proof of enrollment (ie. confirmation of enrollment letter or active transcript of record) is mandatory.

Step 2 - Complete the Online Student Application form and upload Supporting Documents

The application form includes the following sections:

• Profile Information - Create your CIQS account.  If you have already started an account, login from this page to continue the application with your existing account.
• Academic Experience - Provide the institution name, program name, and expected date of completion, then upload your proof of enrollment (offer/acceptance letters and student cards are not acceptable documents).

Step 3 - Review Application and Submit

• Review your application and ensure  you have uploaded your proof of enrollment, then click on the "Complete Application" button to submit.

Note: 

• CIQS students are only assessed to determine TPE requirements and assigned a TPE pathway after program completion.
• Individuals wishing to receive an assessment before program completion will be asked to apply for regular CIQS membership and pay the application fee.
