ABOUT OUR GUESTS

Susan Neil, President, Hanscomb Limited

Susan Neil is the President of Hanscomb, an independent Quantity Surveying firm with nine offices across Canada, specializing in the cost planning and control of major infrastructure projects. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology at Western University and earned a Bachelor of Technology in Project Management at what is now the Toronto Metropolitan University. Susan started her career at Hanscomb as a quantity surveyor right after university and, with over 35 years of experience, has been critical to Hanscomb's growth and success. As President of Hanscomb, Susan oversees the strategic direction for all of Hanscomb’s offices.

Susan is actively involved in various initiatives aimed at advancing the profession and services of Quantity Surveyors. She is a fellow of the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (CIQS), a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS), and past Chair of the Canadian Association of Consulting Quantity Surveyors (CACQS). Susan has been a Part-Time Faculty member at Mohawk College and at the now Toronto Metropolitan University teaching the foundations of Cost Planning and Control. Additionally, she has contributed as a guest lecturer for several years at the University of Waterloo's School of Architecture. Her passion for quantity surveying is evident through her continuous promotion of and education about the profession.

Brandon Roy, Senior Estimator, Traugott Building Contractors Inc.

Brandon Roy, CEC, GSC, is a Senior Estimator with Traugott Building Contractors Inc., a national General contractor specializing in design-build & design-bid-build ICI, Long-Term Care and Multi-Family Mass Timber Residential construction. Currently, Brandon is the lead estimator on a large portfolio including one of the tallest Mass-Timber Multi-Family Residential projects in Ontario at over 12-storeys.

JoAnne Murray, Technical Manager, Hanscomb Limited

JoAnne arrived in Canada in 2019, retired, after a 30-year career in the UK spanning the whole realm of construction activities, including highways, civil engineering, concrete frame and groundworks. However, a QS has a curious mind, which piqued her interest in the Canadian industry. This lead to her joining Hanscomb few years later, which brought with it a brand new challenge, that has only just begun.

As well as the 9-5, JoAnne is an assessor, councilor, and supervisor for RICS APC candidates, sits on the Education and Accreditation committee for the CIQS, and has taken part in the CIQS Day on the Hill. Her interest in historical buildings has led to her becoming a board member of a museum and local historical society in Nova Scotia.

JoAnne lives in Nova Scotia with her husband where she enjoys solving puzzles, and planning adventures in other parts of Canada, but makes time to travel back to the UK at least twice every year to spend time with her grandchildren.
